GNBTS Group was founded in 1980 as Unit of Trieste of the National
Group of Bioengineering (GNB: Gruppo Nazionale di Bioingegneria).
It is active in scientific and technological research, didactics, coordination and promotion of local, regional, transnational and international cooperation in the fields of Biomedical Engineering and technological innovation with the tools of Information & Communication Technology (ICT).
In the education GNBTS is well known for the Specialization School in Clinical Engineering (SSIC: Scuola di Specializzazione in Ingegneria Clinica), active for 12 years. In 2003, after the University reform and in an environment of international cooperation, the School evolved into the Studi Superiori in Ingegneria Clinica - Higher Education in Clinical Engineering (SSIC-HECE), completed in an educational path including also the new 3+2 degrees in Clinical-Biomedical Engineering. Moreover, GNBTS is active for educational programs in several fields of ICT as well as in e-learning.
In scientific and technological R&D GNBTS works in the fields of neuromodeling and neural navigation, plasticity of sensory-motor systems, biomedical instrumentation, clinical and hospital information systems, health telematics, telemedicine, integrated home-care, security and privacy, and in regulations regarding such fields. GNBTS carries on applied and industrial research for Local Administrations, Regions and for private enterprises.
In the field of local, regional, transnational and international cooperation agreements and common projects are active with many public and private organizations, in the U.S.A.
